Future-Focused: WINR Re-Energised with New Structure and Member Offering

The Women’s Irish Network for Racing (WINR), Ireland’s dedicated network for women working across the thoroughbred industry, is proud to announce its official relaunch. With a new Chairperson, an expanded committee, and a clear vision for the future, WINR is entering an exciting new chapter—focused on connection, mentorship, professional development and meaningful opportunity.

WINR was born out of a conversation in 2017 between four women working in the racing and breeding industry, who identified a need for greater support and inspiration for women across all roles—from stable staff to administration, veterinary, media and leadership. Since then, the network has grown steadily, thanks in no small part to the vision and commitment of its founding members, including Clodagh Kavanagh, Suzanne Eade, Sarah McNicholas and Meta Osborne, who continue to support the initiative today.

Appointed to lead the network forward is newly elected Chair, Nessa Joyce, who heads up a refreshed committee made up of passionate and diverse voices from across the industry: Lucy Cummins (Treasurer), Jackie Fitzsimons (Secretary), Caroline Brindley, Sarah Dempsey, Fiona Dowling, Lesley Ann Fox, Siobhan Griffin,  Leona Hughes, Sam McNamara White, Sarah McNicholas, Vicki McWey, Shelley Rapoport and Melanie Young.

In relaunching WINR, the committee has re-affirmed its mission: to encourage women to enjoy horseracing, and to support and nurture their career development into positions of leadership and influence. As part of its growth plans, WINR is working on the development of a new Members Portal, set to launch in the coming months. The platform will provide exclusive access to content, offers, and early ticket access for events, and will be open to paid members on an annual rolling basis.

WINR’s popular Mentoring Programme also continues to grow, providing invaluable guidance, confidence and support to women navigating their careers in racing. Committee member and Mentorship Lead Fiona Dowling said: “The mentoring programme is one of the most impactful ways we can support women in racing. We’ve seen first-hand the power of having someone in your corner—to listen, advise, and open doors. This year, we’re focused on growing the programme, making it more accessible, and ensuring every mentee gets the guidance they need to thrive.”

Planning is also underway for WINR’s next in-person event, due to take place at the iconic Coolmore Stud in Co. Tipperary. With limited capacity, the event will offer a rare opportunity to experience behind-the-scenes at one of the world’s most respected stud farms. Members will receive pre-sale access ahead of general release. Speaking about the relaunch, Chairperson Nessa Joyce said:”I’m honoured to step into the role of Chair at such a pivotal moment for the Women’s Irish Network for Racing. Our new committee reflects the energy, drive and creativity that exists among women in every part of the Irish racing world. We’re committed to building something inclusive, inspiring and impactful that celebrate the contribution of women across the sport.”

“We genuinely wouldn’t be in a position to move forward without the incredible support and partnership of Equuip, the education and training department of Horse Racing Ireland. Their belief in our vision is essential. And as we look ahead, we do so with appreciation for those who came before us—particularly Clodagh Kavanagh, Suzanne Eade, Sarah McNicholas and Meta Osborne—who laid the foundation. It’s now our responsibility to build on their legacy and bring WINR into the next stage of its journey.”
