Introducing the LGBTQIA+ Equestrian Community Survey

Introducing the LGBTQIA+ Equestrian Community Survey

At Equitas, we believe in the power of inclusion and the importance of celebrating diversity. As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive environment, we are excited to introduce the LGBTQIA+ Equestrian Community Survey. This initiative aims to understand and listen to the voices of the LGBTQIA+ community within our industry, ensuring that we continue to evolve and grow in a way that is inclusive and representative of everyone, not just during Pride Month, but all year round.

Why We Created the Survey

The LGBTQIA+ Equestrian Community Survey was born out of a desire to better understand the unique experiences and challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community within our industry. We recognise that while significant strides have been made towards equality, there is still much work to be done. By gathering insights directly from those within the community, we can identify areas for improvement, celebrate successes, and implement meaningful changes that promote inclusivity and diversity.

Being keen to educate ourselves, last year we availed of the consultancy services of "Undivided Training & Consultancy" and this year, Founder, Sarah Maslen has once again donated her expertise to ensure that upon conclusion of this survey, we have gained knowledge, insights, a level of understanding and potential pathways to drive progress for LGBTQIA+ members within the Equestrian Community,

The Importance and Value of the Pride Community

The LGBTQIA+ community is an integral part of our industry, bringing valuable perspectives, creativity, and resilience. Their contributions have shaped and enriched our field in countless ways. However, true inclusion means actively listening to and addressing the needs and concerns of this community. The LGBTQIA+ Equestrian Community Survey is a tool to help us achieve this, providing a platform for voices to be heard and for experiences to be shared.

Our Commitment to Year-Round Inclusion

At Equitas, we are dedicated to ensuring that inclusion is not just a box we tick during Pride Month but a fundamental part of our ethos. We believe that every individual deserves to feel valued and respected every day of the year. This survey is one step in our ongoing journey to make our industry a welcoming and supportive space for everyone, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation.

How You Can Participate

We strongly encourage all members of the LGBTQIA+ community within our industry to participate in the Equestrian LGBTQIA+ Survey. Your insights are crucial in helping us understand where we stand and where we need to go. By taking the survey, you are contributing to a larger effort to promote inclusivity and drive positive change within our field.

Our Supporting Partners

We are proud to have the support of the Irish Stable Staff Association, Eventing Ireland, and The Grassroots Gazette for the LGBTQIA+ Equestrian Community Survey.
These organisations stand in solidarity and understand the crucial importance of fostering an inclusive and supportive environment within the equestrian community. Their dedication to championing diversity and ensuring that every individual feels valued and respected is a testament to their commitment to a more equitable and welcoming sport for all.

“The world of gender is changing and Eventing Ireland prides itself on welcoming and supporting everyone equally into our sport. We all have to be more compassionate and understanding of people's identities. We hope our members complete the survey and we look forward to seeing the results and hope they bring about change and understanding throughout the equestrian industry” - Nikki Potterton; Eventing Ireland Chairperson

We are working towards a future where everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, can thrive in the equestrian world and by working together, we can ensure that the voices of the LGBTQIA+ community are not only heard but also acted upon. Your participation in the survey is a vital part of this process, helping to shape a more inclusive and equitable industry for all.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with us.

Together, we can make a difference.
