Ireland’s para dressage future looks brighter than ever following an exceptional few days at Waregem, where two of our youngest High Performance riders, Katie Reilly and Clodagh Walsh, showcased their talent on the international stage.

The competition began with a strong start on Friday. Katie Reilly impressed early with her two rides: partnering the stunning Keystone Dawn Chorus to score over 70% and claim a superb third place, while piloting her talented Impulz W confidently to secure sixth. Meanwhile, Clodagh Walsh, our youngest team member, rode the beautiful Chantal with composure and style, taking an impressive fifth place amidst a strong and competitive field.

It was clear from the outset that the months of hard work and preparation by both riders and their teams were paying off. Ireland could not have been prouder of their achievements – and there was still more to come.

On Saturday, both ladies faced even tougher competition but once again rose to the challenge. Katie and Keystone Dawn Chorus delivered a beautiful test to take fifth, while her partnership with Impulz W continued to build, finishing seventh in the Grand Prix Grade 3. Clodagh and Chantal produced a clean and polished performance in the Grand Prix Grade 1, climbing to a brilliant fourth place.

The final day brought the Freestyle tests, and it was here that the magic truly happened. Clodagh and Chantal danced their way to fourth with a score of 67+%, performing an elegant and classical routine that highlighted powerful walk steps, leg yields, and beautifully square halts. Katie, riding to a vibrant Lady Gaga soundtrack, delivered a sparkling test with Keystone Dawn Chorus to earn fifth place with an outstanding 70.9%. Highlights included a flowing medium trot and supple serpentines that captivated the audience.

In a proud moment for the Irish contingent, Clodagh was also awarded the prestigious Young Rider Award — a fitting recognition for her composure, talent, and hard work throughout the week.

Waregem proved to be an important stepping stone for both riders as they continue to build their international careers. Their performances reflect not only their individual skill and dedication but also the strength of Ireland’s developing para dressage programme and huge credit should also be given to those involved behind the scenes.

With these young stars leading the way, the future of Irish para dressage looks exceptionally promising.

Congratulations once again to Katie, Clodagh, and all their teams — Ireland is incredibly proud of you. 🍀
