Irish Racing Staff Invited to Share Their Experiences in New Research Study
Equitas is committed to supporting research that strengthens the working lives of those who power the equine industry. A new dissertation study being carried out by Hartpury University student Grace Sinclair is seeking insights from former and current staff across Irish horseracing to better understand the realities of the job, why people leave, and what meaningful change could look like.
Grace is inviting anyone aged 18 or over who has worked in Irish racing — and who has left a role or considered leaving since December 2020 — to take part in a short and fully anonymous survey. Eligible participants include those who have since moved into roles outside of racing or who are now living or working outside Ireland.
The survey takes approximately ten minutes to complete. By contributing, participants will help shape future initiatives aimed at improving staff welfare, retention, and long-term career sustainability. Staff voices are often underrepresented in discussions about employment standards and workforce pressures, making evidence-based research like this particularly important.
At a time when racing continues to grapple with recruitment challenges, high turnover, and concerns around wellbeing, this study offers an opportunity for those with lived experience to guide practical solutions. Honest, first-hand insight is essential if the industry is to understand the pressures facing staff and develop policies that support both career longevity and a positive working environment.
Grace has expressed her appreciation to everyone who takes the time to complete or share the survey.
