Equitas is proud to announce that Sarah Slattery – Para Dressage Rider will be joining the speaker lineup for International Women’s Day 2025.
Sarah Slattery is a leading figure in para dressage and a true testament to resilience in sport. The daughter of renowned international show jumper Tom Slattery, Sarah has been in the saddle since childhood. At just eight years old, she faced a formidable challenge, battling a rare form of cancer that nearly cost her an arm and left her with significant strength and mobility challenges. However, her determination saw her swiftly return to horse riding after her recovery.
Although Sarah had been involved with horses her entire life, she only began competing in para dressage internationally three years ago. In 2023, she competed in her first European Championships, just six months after giving birth to her second daughter, Millie. That same year, she placed third with her new horse, Savona, in the CPEDI3* in Belgium.
Sarah has continued her rise in the sport, achieving her personal best score in the Grand Prix B test in Waregem, Belgium, in 2024. She was also a key member of the Irish team that finished second at Hartpury. She made her Paralympic debut at the Paris 2024 Games, securing an impressive 7th place finish in the freestyle. She also delivered strong performances at the prestigious CPEDI3* in Doha.
In addition to her equestrian pursuits, Sarah is a trained beauty therapist. She has taken a break from her career to focus on raising her two daughters and preparing for the Paralympic Games. Over the summer of 2024, she was based at her sister’s show jumping yard in the Netherlands, further refining her skills.
Now ranked among the top para dressage riders in the world, Sarah continues to set her sights on new challenges as she pursues excellence in the sport.
At Equitas’ International Women’s Day event, Sarah will share her insights on equity in sport, the importance of access and representation, and the lessons that equestrian and other sporting communities can learn from the para-sport model.
Join us for IWD 2025 as we welcome Sarah Slattery and continue the conversation on creating lasting change for women in sport.
