Keeping Women in the Saddle: A Conversation We Need to Have

The session, titled “Keeping Women in the Saddle,” will share the findings from Steph’s MSc research, which surveyed 1,629 women about how hormonal changes have affected their riding. The response was clear: many are experiencing changes in motivation, physical comfort and performance—and too few are talking about it.

What makes this research stand out is the scale and response rate. A 78% completion rate in just over two weeks is rare in academic research and reflects how relevant this topic is for women in equestrian sport.

Steph is a Master Saddle Fitter, British Equestrian Level 4 Coach, and CIMSPA Chartered Coach Developer. She runs a saddle fitting business and a training centre in North Wales. Her interest in this topic came from her own experience as a rider and coach, and the consistent feedback she was hearing from other women.

This event is a chance to hear from someone who understands the sport from the inside and wants to improve the experience for others.

It’s also an opportunity to learn what symptoms to look out for, what support might help, and how we can better retain women in sport—particularly through life changes that are too often ignored.

Whether you're a coach, rider, or simply someone who works with women in the equestrian world, this is a conversation worth being part of.

Let’s make space for it.
