The Ripple Effect of Leadership—How Lizzie Herron Is Changing the Equestrian Industry

Coming soon to the Equitas Podcast.
Some guests bring insight. Others bring stories. Every so often, someone brings both—and then some.
Ahead of our next Equitas podcast episode, we’re delighted to introduce you to a woman whose work is quietly but powerfully reshaping the equestrian industry from the inside out: Lizzie Herron, founder of The Equestrian Leadership Consultancy.
Lizzie Herron didn’t start her career in the equestrian industry. In fact, she spent years leading high-level leadership development initiatives for Sky across the UK and Europe. It was fast-paced, corporate, and full of strategy. But at some point, Lizzie started asking herself bigger questions about where her work—and her heart—truly belonged.
The answer was always horses.
So, she made the shift. Not just to a new role, but to an entirely different way of thinking about leadership.

The Equestrian Leadership Consultancy: More Than a Business
Combining her corporate expertise with a lifelong love of horses, Lizzie launched The Equestrian Leadership Consultancy. Her goal? To support equestrian businesses in developing the kind of leadership that builds trust, strengthens teams, and creates environments where both horses and humans can thrive.
This isn’t about motivational posters or management jargon. It’s about applying real, practical tools to the often-overlooked corners of our industry—yards, riding schools, livery businesses, event teams—places where leadership matters just as much as it does in boardrooms.
Why Leadership in Equestrianism Matters Now More Than Ever
Leadership is one of those words we throw around a lot. But in the equestrian world, it can feel vague—especially when the structure of our businesses is so different from traditional models.
That’s exactly why Lizzie’s work is so important.
She helps clients understand leadership not as a title, but as a practice. A set of behaviours that influence culture, build trust, and ripple out across every part of a business—from how staff communicate, to how horses are handled, to how challenges are resolved.
And in an industry where so much of our work is based on relationships—between people and horses, clients and coaches, staff and management—getting those foundations right is critical.
The Ripple Effect: Small Shifts, Big Change
What’s striking about Lizzie’s approach is how sustainable it is. There’s no grand performance or pressure to overhaul everything overnight. Instead, she focuses on small, meaningful changes that lead to real results.
A shift in how feedback is given. A better way to hold team meetings. A deeper awareness of communication styles. These may seem small, but they have a ripple effect—on morale, on retention, on the horses themselves.
And as Lizzie often says, “When we invest in people, we see the difference everywhere else too.”
Coming Soon: A Conversation That Will Change How You See Leadership
In our next podcast episode, we go deeper with Lizzie. We explore what leadership in the equestrian space actually looks like, why it's so often misunderstood, and how even small yards can benefit from leadership thinking.
