Women’s Polo in the Spotlight as U.S. Open Finals Set for Feb. 9

This Sunday, February 9, 2025, the National Polo Center (NPC) in Wellington, Florida, will host the finals of the U.S. Open Women's Polo Championship, offering a rare opportunity to witness some of the world's leading female polo players in action.
The U.S. Open Women's Polo Championship has a rich history dating back to the 1930s in California, with the inaugural tournament held in 1937 at Golden Gate Field in San Francisco. After a period of dormancy, the championship was officially recognised as a national tournament in 2011 and found a permanent home in South Florida in 2018.
This year's tournament, presented by the Brad and Kathy Coors Foundation, began on January 28, 2025, with preliminary games at Port Mayaca Polo Club. The semifinals took place at NPC, leading up to the highly anticipated final on Sunday. The competition features six talented teams: BTA/Lazy 3, Buena Vibra, La Dolfina/90210, La Fe Eastern Hay, Mint Eco Car Wash, and North Star. Reigning champions Valentina Tarazona and Milly Hine return to defend their title with Buena Vibra, while other notable players, including 10-goalers Hazel Jackson (North Star) and Hope Arellano (La Fe Eastern Hay), aim to lead their teams to victory.
The championship offers $25,000 in prize money, divided between the first ($17,000) and second ($8,000) place teams. Additionally, U.S. Polo Assn. will provide $2,500 to both the winning team and the runner-up to donate to the polo charity of their choice, encouraging the spirit of philanthropy within the polo community.
For those unable to attend in person, all games are being livestreamed on the USPA Polo Network, with the final also available on the ESPN family of brands. Check your local listings for times and channels.
This event exemplifies the growing prominence of women's polo on the global stage, offering a platform for female athletes to showcase their skills and passion for the sport. We encourage our Equitas community to support and celebrate these remarkable competitors as they vie for one of the most coveted titles in women's polo.
